Dec 3, 2017. #7. I'm new to this engine at moment but gathering answers to faults. As to the EGR and loss of power being associated together the answer is yes. If the EGR does not close when powering you are using spent exhaust gas with the oxygen burnt away, mixed with the fuel to try and give max power.Depends of course if you are looking at Fiat vans or the Citroen or Peugeot derivatives which may have Ford (?) engines. Judging from forum posts the 2.3 JTD engine which replaced the 2.8 on Fiat vans seems to be a solid engine with any unreliability issues arising from the increasingly more stringent and complex emission control add-ons required for later Euro 5 & 6 regulations My 2009 build I have a 5 year old Fiat Ducato PVC with the 150 engine and Comfortmatic. I usually drive large estates (Volvo and BMW since 2004) with auto gearboxes and powerful engines so am used to comfort, power and good handling. I thought that I would find a Fiat Ducato, in comparison, to be slow, cumbersome, noisy and uncomfortable with poor handling. Just joined the forum as some help kindly requested. Touring in Spain in Hymer 2016 Fiat Ducato powered motorhome with automatic transmission. Recently on cold start-ups, a whistle or whine comes from the engine space and stops when the vehicle has warmed up. It is a very audible sound and increases when the revs go up and decreases when idle.
